Antero Halla pen-name ANSU was born on 22nd of June 1936 in Oulu, Finland. He was a Finnish cartoonist, graphic artist and illustrator.

ANSU is best known for his wordless cartoons which were published weekly in Finland’s largest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat during the 70’s and 80’s.

His philosophy regarding his cartoons was that everything not relevant needs to be stripped out of the picture, including text. He believed that the drawing had to speak for itself and should communicate the message regardless of language or knowledge of any current political circumstance.

In his drawings there is often a connection to his personal life, values and the way he viewed the society and the world we live in, whether tragic or humorous.

ANSU published three cartoon books, from which, GO-GO (1979) was rewarded as the Cartoon book of the Year 1980 at the annual World Cartoon Festival in Knokke-Heist, Belgium.

ANSU died on 22nd of October 2007 in Helsinki, at the age of 71.
